Love and Judaism, with Gideon Amir
August 7 at 7pm

Join Gideon Amir for a class inspired by the holiday of Tu B'Av, a minor Jewish holiday that has come to be celebrated as a holiday of love in Modern Israel.

In this class we will discuss the meaning and development of Tu B'Av, the idea that God loves us and whether Judaism is a religion of love or "just" a religion of law.

This class will take place in person at Temple Isaiah
No Cost for Temple Isaiah members, $18 for non-members

Gideon Amir was born in Holland to Holocaust survivors who went to Israel in 1947.  He grew up in Jerusalem and served in the IDF as a Paratrooper. Gideon received his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rechovot. In 1980, he moved to the United States, and after a career in computer science enrolled in the graduate program Baltimore Hebrew University, where he received his masters in Jewish Studies. As such, he re-directed his passion for teaching from computer science to the teaching of Jewish and Bible subjects at various adult education programs including the Haberman Institute for Jewish Studies.
